life is like holding up a rose, you need to feel the thorns before you get to smell it

Second week of college just passed and homework are piling high already. This week was normal, nothing unusual except that last Sunday I watched Australia at the cinema with a few friends. I would rate that movie 7 out of 10. During one of the EAL/D classes this week, I learn about literary devices and one of them was figurative language. An example of a figurative language would be ‘life is like holding up a rose, you need to feel the thorns before you get to smell it’. I choose this phrase because it somehow does reflect on our lives. Don’t you think? In life we must go through and face challenges or obstacles. No one life’s is easy from the start. We need to work hard for what we want and that is an indisputable fact. After all the hard work then only the rewards come in. Every sweat we make is worth the effort because at the end of the day we will get the reward eventually.

However, we cannot expect that rewards come easily. Rewards are accumulation of effort we made and often it’s only attainable in the long run. Some might think that they work hard the day before their exams then they might produce better grades the next day but that is certainly not true. Look at how many students who failed by implementing this viewpoint. All the small, tiny and little efforts we make each day can make a difference and believe it or not this applies in our lives. Take studying for example. If every single day we study a little bit then in the far future it will be beneficial rather than focusing more on last minute studying. Believe me, it works because I’m starting to make it a habit to at least do a little studying each day and sometimes I read ahead. Needless to say, this method has been proven true by many sources. Another example would be saving money. Normally, we put our money as fixed deposits and wait for our money to grow and this would take at least a year. From this example, although I can’t say that we make efforts by investing our money but I can conclude that rewards do not come easily.

In life, we encounter many faces throughout our phases (hey that’s my blog header! Haha) and it is inevitable. Hence, the phrase ‘life is like holding up a rose, you need to feel the thorns before you get to smell it’ that I had mentioned earlier would also best describe this situation. Although there are many kinds of people that we might hate or dislike, we must move on with our lives nevertheless. These people are merely part of parcel in our life and we must learn to be tolerant. Then again, tolerance does have a limit. It does not mean that when someone gives in, that person is someone who you can step on the head. For me, I give in just to prevent dispute or argument. Often, I would just keep quiet and ignore those who irritates me or those who make my day a troublesome one. I’ve met a lot of people and I finally rationalized that I can’t run away from the people I dislike because they are just the same as the advertisements in TV. I just take them as some kind of distractions that occurred in my life and true enough they won’t last long, just like advertisements.

Anyway, enough of the babblings. I found out its quite interesting to learn literary devices. I used to have an interest in narrating but somehow or rather I painfully give up this interest due to my inability to grasp the language comprehensively. I always have ideas in my mind, you know, the ideas come like slides shows, like a movie in fact but I can’t express my views or story very well in detail. Sometimes I got a rough idea to what to blog, but then, I can’t express it convincingly enough resulting with me ending up not blogging at all.

Do you know any more figurative languages that can be related to our life just like the one I mentioned earlier? If you do, please drop a comment or two ya :)

*p.s. I had to delete the chatbox because it has been a place for spamming and I don’t know who started it but it getting worse. The only solution is to delete it. How sad. Shame on those who spam on my blog, look at what you all have done! but you all are forgiven because all of you are just part of the faces i have seen in my life :)

CHEERS!
